Inertia6 is a play on Newton’s first law. Also referred to as the law of inertia, it states that an object in motion stays in motion. An object at rest stays at rest unless acted upon by an outside force. At Inertia6, our job is to keep your body moving. If your body has been at rest for too long, allow us to be the outside force that changes the course of your health. A body in motion stays in motion.

The 6 comes from the six principals of Pilates: Control, Concentration, Centering, Precision, Breathing, and Flow. All six principals are important to us and will play a key role in your exercise program.

Massage is an effective treatment for reducing stress, pain and muscle tension. Additionally, massage is frequently used to treat specific conditions or diseases, anxiety, headaches, insomnia, soft tissue injuries, and joint pain. Many people enjoy massage simply to feel relaxed and rejuvenated. Other reported benefits for massage include pain reduction, quicker recovery from exercise, reduction in scar tissue, improved posture, increased range of motion, increased blood flow, and overall mood improvement.

It depends on your body’s wants and/or needs. Frequently, clients will hit it hard in the beginning with once a week then work into a maintenance schedule of once a month. Your body may require more or less than that. This will be determined by how you feel and what kind of schedule fits your budget.

Pilates is an exercise system developed in the 1920s by legendary physical trainer Joseph H. Pilates. It is a series of controlled movements that engage the body AND mind. Pilates is performed on specially designed apparatuses and is taught by extensively trained individuals.

Pilates not just a fitness class; it is whole body conditioning. It improves flexibility and strength simultaneously without building bulk. With an emphasis on core strength, it teaches you how to initiate all movement from your core instead of fatiguing secondary muscles to the point of compensation and injury. It also helps your balance, control and mental focus. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just looking to incorporate some healthy movement into your life, Pilates is for everyone at any age.

Classical Pilates maintains the quality and integrity of Joe’s original studio. We take a holistic approach to exercise and create an individualized workout for your body and your needs.

When Joseph Pilates developed his method of exercise, he did not trademark the name “Pilates,” he called it Contrology. As a result, there is a wide range of styles, all legally called “Pilates.”

Classical Pilates has been around for nearly 100 years. It is a tried and true method.

You should be confident in your instructor’s ability to teach you the Pilates method effectively and safely. They should be able to create a program that is specific to you and your goals, one that is constantly changing as you progress.

My apprenticeship contained 700 hours of practical training which included training seminars, classroom instruction and observation, written and practical tests. I was also required to take hundreds of Pilates sessions to improve my personal fitness. With four years of teaching under my belt, I continue to learn and improve my skills daily.

The aim of Pilates is not to fatigue your muscles, but rather to strengthen and re-program them in a way that supports your body in every aspect of your life. Pilates can be done every single day, but doesn’t need to be to get results. We generally recommend twice a week for beginners. Your instructor will work with you to find what is best for your body and your budget.
